And the hero of the day, to the loud applause of her guests, won the silver medals of the tournament. Nikolai Karpol's team, which represented the Russian club team as part of the Yeltsin Cup, became the silver medalist of the Yeltsin Cup this year. According to the volleyball players' coach, this season Uralochka-NTMK has updated its roster and a lot of work has been done. Ahead of the girls is the start of the national championship with a new lineup. The first game will take place on October 11 in Nizhny Tagil against Chelyabinsk Metara. By the way, Karpol’s team will still meet with Volero in the Champions League.
Uralochka will also meet with the bronze medalist of the Yeltsin Cup, the Dynamo team (Krasnodar). Konstantin Ushakov’s team presented the audience with decent volleyball at this tournament.

Second day of the Yeltsin Cup
Dynamo's first victory and the first loss of the Russian club team
Dynamo (Krasnodar) – Turkey: 3:1 (21:25; 25:19; 26:24; 25:16).
Having suffered a defeat from the Russian club team the day before, the Turkish team did not waste any time, and by the second day they were clearly working on their mistakes. Compared to the second Russian team, the Turkish women were no longer in the position of catching up. On the contrary, they made Russian women nervous. The lack of experience (it was precisely this factor that Turkish women's head coach Ferhat Akbaş complained about the day before) did not prevent the Turkish team from winning the first set. In the second game, the Russians took the lead, but the Turkish women fought with dignity for every ball. And by the third set the teams were practically playing ball-to-ball. Experience has served Dynamo Krasnodar in good stead.
Post-match interviews
Ferhat Akbaş, head coach of the Turkish team:
“I’m happy, today we showed a different game. They were more united. Especially #11. I applaud Dynamo and congratulate the team on their victory. Tomorrow we also have a difficult game with Volero. We will try our best!”
« There is always something to work on! We analyzed yesterday's game and today we tried not to make the same mistakes. The girls did it, this is our first victory of the season! And it’s more important than ever.”
Club team Switzerland – Russia 3:0 (25:19; 25:18; 25:12)
In the second match, teams met that won one victory each during the tournament - the Swiss team and the Russian club team. And from the very first minutes it was clear that the fight would be tough. The support of our team was impressive - from the stands, in addition to Naina Yeltsina, experienced athletes, ex-Ural girls and the star cast of the 1980 Olympics, were cheering for the girls. And the energy of the hall also did its job. Until I became confident in unconditional success, which led to a few more mistakes. By the second set we had to catch up. In the third, do everything possible to prevent the guests from winning dry.
Post-match interviews.
Nikolay Karpol, head coach of the Russian club team at the tournament:
“The girls were a little scared today. We felt success in the first game, but then we stumbled over our opponent’s wall and lost confidence. The fact that these games are the first of the season affects the lack of mental form. I was immediately ready for the Cup to leave Yekaterinburg this year, and this is a well-deserved victory for Volero, they are the strongest club. And we are waiting for preparations for the National Championship.”
Zoran Terzic, head coach of Volero (Switzerland):
“This is our first time at the Yeltsin Cup, and it’s such a success right away. I'm happy. Everyone is already congratulating us on our victory ahead of schedule, I am very pleased with this. There's another game tomorrow. The girls were good at serving today. But in the first game they played poorly. However, this did not affect the result. I'm happy with the team."
Tomorrow, September 21, on the final day of the Yeltsin Cup 2016, Turkey and Volero (Switzerland) will compete in the final matches, this game starts at DIVS at 14-00.
Next, the match between the Russian club team and Dynamo (Krasnodar) will reveal the strongest; it will start at 16-15. And immediately after there will be an autograph session with Olympic champions, European, World, and Russian champions of Uralochka players from different years. Tomorrow the most titled team in Russia turns 50! You can take a photo with Ekaterina Gammova, Lyudmila Sokolova, and many other volleyball legends tomorrow, at 18-00.
The Yeltsin Volleyball Cup started in Yekaterinburg
The Russian club team started the tournament with a victory!
In the first match of the Cup, the Swiss club team and Dynamo (Krasnodar, Russia) met on the court. The Swiss women had unequal strengths against Dynamo Krasnodar. As a result, 3:0 (25:15;25:18;25:17) in favor of the Zurich club team.
Post-match interviews
Konstantin Ushakov, head coach of Dynamo (Krasnodar):
“I’m not happy with the mood for the game; we could have given more emotions. And the girls came out with the idea that it was impossible to win. This is just the beginning, the first match of the season. We will add more in future games."
Zoran Terzic, head coach of Volero (Zurich):
“I'm pleased. This is the first game for us. To be honest, I did not expect such a quick victory, because Dynamo is a strong opponent. But the girls managed it. Tomorrow we have a meeting with Uralochka, and this is our most important opponent. And meeting Karpol is like a holiday. Uralochka is a strong team, a silver medalist at the Russian Championship, and tomorrow we have to play even better.”
And immediately after the first game at DIVS, the opening ceremony of the XIV International Volleyball Tournament for the Cup of the First President of Russia B.N. took place. Yeltsin.
Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev addressed the participants with a welcoming speech:
“Dear friends, today’s tournament is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the famous Uralocha-NTMK team. Thanks to which volleyball is one of the favorite sports in the Urals. I am sure that today's tournament will give the audience a dynamic game, bright and spectacular volleyball. This tournament is the beginning of a new Olympic cycle. Good luck to all participants!”
As part of the Yeltsin Cup, they also launched a charity lottery together with the “WE Are Together” foundation. Every viewer can help Igor Senatorov - the boy has a severe form of neuroblastoma; 3,750,000 rubles must be raised for treatment in Germany. Ekaterinburg residents can make a contribution to their strength by purchasing a lottery ticket for the Cup. The price of such a ticket is 50 rubles. Each purchased coupon will take part in a prize draw from the organizers.
Russian club team – Turkey: 3:0 (25:17; 25:17; 25:16)
In the second match of the tournament, the Russian club team and the Turkish team met on the court. The latter, according to experts, is a “dark horse.” However, miracles can be expected from the Russian team. After all, this season Uralochka-NTMK, according to head coach Nikolai Karpol, is starting the season almost with a clean slate. Last season, the club lost 5 experienced athletes from the main team. At the Yeltsin Cup, the team consists of 11 Uralochka-NTMK players and two Dynamo Kazan players - Irina Zaryazhko and Daria Stolyarova. The head coach of Dynamo Kazan, Rishat Gilyazutdinov, will help Nikolai Vasilyevich Karpol at the tournament.
By the way, the full team gathered for the first training session only the day before the tournament. And in the first games, Karpol’s team had to play together and try on things in order to feel like a real master for tomorrow’s match. Both sites and positions.
Post-match interviews.
Nikolay Karpol, head coach of VC “Uralochka-NTMK” and the club team at the tournament:
“Today is our first game. We all just gathered yesterday for the first training session with the girls from Dynamo. Turkish women are strong players. And compared to the last Russian Championship, we play more sharply. Babeshina made me happy today; in general, everyone was allowed to play today. The resistance of the Turkish women was felt. I didn’t swear today, I just made comments.”
Ferhat Akbaş, head coach of the Turkish national team:
“I would like to thank the tournament organizers for a wonderful holiday. My team is quite young. While Uralochka is a very experienced team. We have something to work on."
The second day of the Yeltsin Cup is declared a family day. On September 20, DIVS will be interesting not only for adults, but also for children: the organizers have prepared children's attractions, master classes, and face painting for the audience.
Tomorrow "Uralochka" will have a match with the team "Volero" from Switzerland, the game will start at 19-15. Turkey and Dynamo (Krasnodar) will play in the first match, this match starts at 17-00.

press conference of the Yeltsin Cup 2016
The club with a 50-year history knows how to win without meldonium:
The head coach shared the secrets of preparing the team for the Yeltsin Cup
VK Uralochka-NTMK and the club team at the tournament Nikolay Karpol
Starts on September 19 in Yekaterinburg XIV international volleyball tournament among women's teams for the Yeltsin Cup. We remind you that The Russian team, in connection with the big holiday in the history of the most titled domestic volleyball club, will be represented at the tournament by Uralochka students, including current players of the Sverdlovsk team, as well as two volleyball players currently playing for Dynamo Kazan. The main surprise for the fans, and for many experienced volleyball fans a huge gift, will be the composition of the coaching staff of the Russian team. Also, in connection with the 50th anniversary of Uralochka, together with the All-Russian Volleyball Federation, a symbolic decision was made: the Russian team at the Yeltsin Cup will be led by the most titled volleyball coach in the world, Nikolai Karpol.
Today, three days before the start of the tournament, he answered questions from journalists.
Karpol N.V., head coach of VK Uralochka-NTMK and the Russian club team at the Yeltsin Cup:
“When preparing for this tournament, we had certain difficulties with the organization. First the Olympics, now preparations for further competitions. Therefore, the national team was physically unable to participate and had to be replaced by a club team. Thus, at this tournament the team was formed mainly from Uralochka players, with the addition of players and coaches from Dynamo Kazan. The Swiss team is a fairly strong opponent, as well as Dynamo Krasnodar, who are replacing the Azerbaijani team at this tournament. While the Turkish team is still a dark horse for us. Volleyball will be good. Although, I won’t lie, we have to prepare in the same way as football and hockey players prepare – we will all get together literally two days before the start.
The same cannot be said about the readiness of the urinals; we had to start preparing very early. Almost from scratch. Since the team lost its leaders - Zaryazhko, Pisarenko, Jack, Romanova and Sazhin. However, I am betting on those who managed to prove themselves during the previous season. I expect results from Babeshina, Ilchenko and Klimets. The girls are able to show an interesting game both in defense and defense.
We worked a lot on speed and agility. We trained intensively on Mount Belaya, then in Belarus and Crimea. There, in addition to fresh air, sea and sun, they paid a lot of attention to nutrition - fresh vegetables, especially onions (laughs). We trained 6 hours a day, but due to natural conditions and nutrition, recovery was fast, so believe me, you can restore strength without meldonium!”
Let's do good deeds together!
The Yeltsin Cup is not just a prestigious international sports tournament, but also a traditional event with which Yekaterinburg is associated. This year, the volleyball forum in the Ural capital will again also become a platform for charity events.

The 15th anniversary international volleyball tournament “Yeltsin Cup” has ended in Yekaterinburg. In the decisive match for first place, two favorites of the competition met - the national teams of Russia and Serbia. The Serbian volleyball players won the intense match with a score of 3:2 and, accordingly, won the tournament.
During the competition before the “golden match”, Russia and Serbia won three victories each, so the fate of the trophy was decided in this game. Let us remind you that for the Russians the Serbians are a fundamental rival. They were the ones who defeated our team in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and then reached the final.
The Serbian national team came to the Yeltsin Cup with a powerful lineup: 6 Olympic silver medalists and 4 European champions. Therefore, for the Russian team this match became a real test of strength. In the opening of the first game, the Serbians led 3:0, but then our girls evened out the situation - 3:3. However, the Russians left both technical breaks with a difference of minus four points - 4:8 and 12:16. As a result, it was not possible to win back this Serbian backlog - 19:25 in the first set.
At the beginning of the second game, the spectators saw an equal fight - 4:4, but this time the home team took the lead at the first technical break - 8:5. The Russians managed to maintain their advantage by the second break - 16:14. The ending turned out to be hot, but the home team was more accurate - 25:22. The score for the games was equal - 1:1.
In the third game period, the Serbian volleyball players, closer to the middle of the set, managed to achieve a 5-point lead - 9:14, but the Russians made a brilliant comeback, leveling the score - 14:14, but later the advantage was on the side of the Serbian national team and our team was again in the status catching up - 21:25.
The opponents started the fourth game on approximately equal terms, the Serbians were a little more reliable - 6:8, and then the score was again 9:14 and a spectacular chase by the Russian team - 21:21! Returning to the game, the Russians snatched victory in the game - 28:26. The set score became equal - 2:2.
The fate of the meeting was decided in a tiebreaker. At the beginning the fight was equal - 5:5. Then the same picture - 10:10. And only in the very end were the Serbs a little more accurate - 14:16. Serbia takes the Cup. Russia is second.
In another match of the final playing day, the Turkish team confidently beat the Kazakhstan team 3:0 and for the second time in history became the bronze medalist of the Yeltsin Cup.
